Where to take the ferry from Amalfi to Sorrento

Ferries and hydrofoils to Sorrento depart from Molo Cassone, located at the beautiful port of Amalfi. The port is about a 10-minute walk from the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, passing along the town’s promenade.

At the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants and a few shops, as well as ticket offices, bus stops, and taxis, making it easy to reach from anywhere in Amalfi.

  • By car: take the A3 motorway and exit at Vietri sul Mare (from Naples/Salerno) or Angri (towards Sorrento/Positano), then follow the scenic SS163 Amalfitana coastal road. There are parking facilities near the ferry terminal, but spaces are limited and parking can be expensive. For this reason, it's often more convenient to leave your car behind and use public transport.
  • By public bus: SITA Sud buses connect Amalfi with many cities like Salerno, Positano and Naples. The main bus stop is in Piazza Flavio Gioia, just a short walk from the port.
  • By train: there is no train station in Amalfi. You can travel to Salerno or Vietri sul Mare by train and continue to Amalfi by SITA bus.
  • By plane: the nearest airport is Naples Capodichino Airport, about 75 km away. From there, you can reach Amalfi by seasonal direct bus (April-October), private transfer or taxi.

Where does the ferry arrive in Sorrento?

Ferries from Capri normally dock at Marina Piccola, the main port of Sorrento, which is located just below the historic center. It’s about a 15-min walk to Piazza Tasso, the central square of Sorrento, however this involves stairs and uphill streets.

Alternatively, there are local buses that connect the port with the center and other areas in town, and taxis are usually available outside the port. You can also hop on the public elevator from the port to the Villa Comunale gardens, which is a stone’s throw from the center of Sorrento.

In the area around Marina Piccola, there are cafés, bars and restaurants, as well as shops, ticket offices and parking lots.
