Where to take the ferry from Positano to Capri

Ferries to Capri normally depart from Marina Grande, the main dock in Positano, on the Amalfi Coast. The port is in the lower part of town, lright on the beach and a short walk from the historic center and about 60 km from Naples Capodichino Airport.

Near the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants, boat rental services, and water taxis. If you plan on doing some shopping before the trip, you will find shops and boutiques lining the uphill streets leading toward the upper part of Positano.

How to get to the port of Positano

  • On foot: from central Positano, simply follow the pedestrian paths and staircases leading downhill toward the main beach, Spiaggia Grande.

  • By bus: on the local mobility buses you can get off at Piazza dei Mulini, which is the lowest point accessible by motor vehicles, which is a 5-min walk through pedestrianized shopping alleys down to the pier. Regional SITA buses from Sorrento and Amalfi drop you off at the top of the town (Sponda or Chiesa Nuova stops), which are a 10-to-15-min downhill walk from the pier.

  • By taxi: you can take a taxi as far down as Piazza dei Mulini and from there, you continue to the pier on foot.

  • By car: follow the Amalfi Coast road, SS163, toward Positano. You will need to leave your vehicle at one of the paid parking lots along the upper main road and continue on foot or 

Where does the ferry arrive in Capri?

  • By funicular (cable car): located directly across from the pier, the funicular railway takes about 5 min to reach the Piazzetta (Piazza Umberto I) in Capri town.

  • By public minibus: the main bus terminal at Marina Grande is a short walk to the right of the ferry docks, with frequent small buses run directly to Capri town and Anacapri (20-25 min).

  • By taxi: there is a designated queue of open-top convertible taxis right outside the arrivals pier.

  • On foot: you can walk from Marina Grande up to Capri town via the uphill stone paths and staircases in about 20 to 30 min.
