Where to take the ferry from Tanger Med to Algeciras

You can catch the ferry to Algeciras from Tanger Med Passenger Port, Morocco’s main ferry hub for routes to Spain. The port is located in the Oued Rmel area, around 40 km east of Tangier city center. Keep in mind that Tanger Med is not the same as Tangier Ville Port, which is closer to the city center and mainly serves different ferry routes.

At Tanger Med, you can find ticket offices, information desks, cafés and restaurants, shops, ATMs, parking areas, Wi-Fi, restrooms, prayer rooms, assistance services, luggage carts, mobile charging points, and an infirmary.

How to get to the port of Tanger Med

• By car: from Tangier, you can reach Tanger Med via the A4 highway in around 40-60 min, depending on traffic. If you are traveling with a vehicle, follow the signs for Automobile Access, where ticket checks, police and customs controls are carried out before boarding.
• By taxi or private transfer: taxis and private transfers are a practical option from Tangier city center or Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport. The ride usually takes around 45 min to 1 hr. It is a good idea to agree on the fare in advance.
• By train: you can travel between Tanger Ville and Tanger Med by train. The journey usually takes around 1 hr. From the Tanger Med transport area, follow the port’s internal directions to reach the ferry terminal.
• By bus / shuttle: buses and shuttles connect Tangier city and the Tanger Med transport areas with the passenger terminal. Foot passengers and bus passengers normally access the port through Tanger Med Port Center. After police and customs checks, an intra-port shuttle takes passengers to the boarding area.

Where does the ferry arrive in Algeciras?

Ferries from Tanger Med normally dock at the port of Algeciras, on the southern coast of Spain. The port is close to the city center and well connected for onward travel in Andalusia and the rest of Spain.

Near the passenger terminal, you can find cafés, shops, parking areas, taxis, hotels, restaurants, pharmacies and car-rental services. The main bus and train stations are within walking distance of the port, or a short taxi ride away if you have luggage.

Onward travel from the port of Algeciras

• To the city center: central Algeciras is easy to reach on foot from the ferry terminal.
• To Gibraltar: you can continue by bus, taxi or car toward La Línea de la Concepción, the Spanish town next to the Gibraltar border.
